Israel Orders Closure of West Bank After Shooting Incident Near Hebron

What happened

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered security forces to close the city of Hebron and prepare for what he described as an extensive military operation in the West Bank. This followed a shooting incident near Hebron on Friday in which Israeli soldiers were injured. Israel's military said it killed two Palestinian men it identified as the attackers.

Side by side

Left9 versions

Left outlets lead with Netanyahu ordering the operation and describe the men as being "behind an alleged attack" or that Israel "killed two alleged Palestinian gunmen." The Guardian notes that "two Israeli soldiers and two Pales[tinians]" were killed, providing counts for both sides.

Center1 version

Newsweek leads with the military order to "prepare full closure" and notes the timing is "days before election."

Right5 versions

Right outlets lead with Netanyahu's response, with Breitbart emphasizing this is "on a scale not seen since the 1967 Six-Day War" and framing the location as "Judea and Samaria, also known as the West Bank." They describe the attackers definitively as "terrorists" rather than alleged attackers.
